Report:
The fishing the last two weeks has been really good.
There is a very good jig bite going on right now and the
drop shot bite is very good also. To catch the jig fish you
need to be fishing deeper than you normally would this time
of year because the water has not cooled down much. The
water temp is still in the 80's and that is keeping the
bigger fish deeper. Best baits has been a 1/2 ounce jig and
heavier in your favorite color with a twin tail or paca
chunk fished slow along the bottom. The drop shot bite was
on fire yesterday catching fish on every stop with several
keepers through out the day. The keeper ratio was really
good this past week with most keepers being spots on the
drop shot and smallmouths on the jig. I did add a picture of
a big black a lady caught last week and we had several big
smallmouths over three.
I didn't see any white
bass action at all so I have no info for them except they
are not surfacing at the dam at this time. I did hear they
have been coming up around Piney and also in the Cape Fair
area but I didn't witness either area myself. There is going
to be a spinnerbait bite taking off soon when the water temp
drops. The water color up in the lake is good, not to clear
and not dirty, really it is just right. First thing in the
morning you can get some bites pretty shallow (5-10 foot)
but when the sun hits the water the bite is out deeper
(25-35) depending on what bait you are throwing. I have been
drop shotting 4" worms with 6 pound line and 12 pound line
on the jigs if using baitcaster and 8 pound line when using
spinning gear. This is a great time to be out because the
jet ski traffic has slowed down and at times you can hardly
believe you are on Table Rock from the lack of boat traffic
which makes it nice. The whites should be getting ready to
start surfacing ju st anytime which makes for some fun
action.
See ya on the water

Report:
The dog days of summer are here. The water temp is 88-89
degrees and hot...it feels like bath tub water. The good
news is there are still some fish to be caught but you need
to get out early to beat the extremely high air temps we
have been experiencing lately. First thing in the morning
there are fish that will hit a jig trailed with your
favorite double tail crawled along the bottom. This is a day
break till about 6:30-7:00 am thing. But when you quit
getting bites they are gone and you need to do something
else. I'm not sure where they are going except maybe real
deep or they are just roaming around after the numerous
schools of shad and they are suspending which makes them
harder to catch. Top water bite has not been there for me
with this high of surface temp. Once the bottom fish quit
biting I have to go to the drop shot technique to get bites.
Canadian crawlers will get you lots of bites and if you want
to use plastics 4" worms are your best bet in watermelon,
watermelon/red, brown/purple, and shad patterns. All these
patterns are for the clear water from Kimberling City toward
the dam/long Creek Bridge. I have not been up the James
river so I have no hands on report. After 11:00am there are
lots of party boats out having fun so this is a great time
to fish from day break before everyone gets up until about
10:00 am and call it a day. It not much fun with the high
day time temps hovering in the high 90's with the heat index
thrown in on top of that.
Stay cool and I will see you on the water.
